The Zuzimpilo Cooperative was started in Hibberdene in 2000 with 20 local ladies interested in producing craft to sell. The purpose of the cooperative was income generation and sharing of skills. It has since grown to upwards of 40 ladies and is unique in that its members span multiple generations, the young learning from their elders and visa versa.
Through the Lion’s Club of Hibberdene, the group has participated in several skills development programs, including: textiles, leather, bead work, weaving, wood carving and wire work. In 2007, Zuzimpilo participated in sewing training with Embocraft.
The Coop is currently meeting three times a week to produce, mostly beadwork which they sell to their community and through Embocraft. Zuzimpilo has also been participating in craft shows hosted by the Ugu Municipality.
